In this book you can see where he makes the transition from states where he has direct experience, and states he can only talk about. It also shows how meditation experience is directed by the teachings and concepts.
September 23, 2011 comment by Edji re this book - progressive emptiness is revealed, but the experience is also colored by the underlying philosophy of what the experience means. Notice the author really has not experienced the final two states. His description is totally theoretical.
Someone who does not have a guide likely will not experience such a progression, but would experience different appearances of emptiness at different times.
I like to ignore the conceptual descriptions as they create a student's experience. I don't want anyone tied to concepts, but rather to create their own paths, to have the courage to pursue their own truth, for in the end, that is what one must have.
